Es ist ein wenig wie ein Katastrophenfilm, den man vom sicheren Kinositz aus betrachtet. Nach einem schlechten Evaluationsergebnis hat die Leitung der Universität Liverpool angekündigt, das Institut für Philosophie zu schließen. Die Homepage des Instituts selbst darf offensichtlich nichts darüber berichten. Die Liverpool Daily Post gibt einen Überblick. Siehe auch den Bericht im Guardian.
Das Institut bietet, so die Begründung, keine “Weltklasseforschung”. Damit wird ein Schlagwort zum Schlagwort. “under-performing”, ‘realignment and repositioning, transfer of activity to another higher education institution, and closure’.
Und dazu die bekannten rhetorischen Gesten.
There is something terrible happening to higher education in Europe, on a European scale, it constitutes a real threat to the continued existence of what has been called “universities” for centuries in Europe, and it takes place almost unnoticed.

Some have compared the actions of the administration of the Council at the University of Liverpool to those of the Nazi and Stalinist regimes. Please stop with this nonsense. There are no concentration camps or gulags being proposed here and this only serves to make our cause look ridiculous to outsiders. (David Slakter)
